About Us

Founded in 1983, B. H. Burke & Co., Inc. (BHBCo), based in Westbrook, Connecticut, provides business-valuation and consulting assistance to independent insurance agencies and brokerages on matters of agency finance, operations, technology, and management. 

Brian H. Burke, ASA, is the founder and president of BHBCo and is a frequent speaker and writer on agency issues.  BHBCo has worked with hundreds of agencies and carriers in most parts of the country and in Mexico and Canada, as well as with several banks and other financial institutions.  Brian is also a Director of InsurBanc, a federally chartered financial institution that specializes in lending and other services for the insurance-agency community.

Everett W. Shaw, ASA, Thomas D. McGraw, CPCU, Jason H. Hoeppner, CIC, and Dominic Setaro, Jr., are Brian’s associates in agency consulting and valuation.  Everett is also Brian’s partner.  Bonnie Erickson Burke is BHBCo’s communications manager and its secretary/treasurer.  Kate Thompson is BHBCo’s receptionist and staff assistant.

Prior to founding his own company in 1983, Brian spent nearly 10 years in the insurance industry in both property/casualty and life insurance, in both sales and company-management roles.  He is a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers, certified in business valuation and is a past president of the ASA’s Connecticut chapter.  Brian holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Connecticut. 

Everett is also a Senior Member of the ASA, certified in business valuation.  He holds a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.  Tom holds a bachelor’s degree from Niagara University and property/casualty and surplus-lines licenses in Massachusetts.  Jason is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve.  Dom served for several years as the controller of a large agency and was director of accounting and related services for a major Connecticut municipality before joining BHBCo.
